You Don’t TSE

Friday, March 19th, 2010

I’ve been a long time fan of Tess Giberson’s. So it goes without saying that I was happy to hear that after putting her signature line on hold in 2005 to take a position at TSE, where she remained until 2008, Tess Giberson revived her line for Spring/Summer 2010 and Fall/Winter 2010. [ And, yeah, I'm aware that this is the worst title ever ]

On Angels’ Wings // Angels and Demons

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

Alexander McQueen’s presentation for Fall/Winter 2010 was held on March 9th, 2010, in a private salon in Paris. The final collection, consisting of 16 pieces, displayed digitally captured works of art — Botticelli angels and the demons of Hieronymus Bosch — woven into the fabric. All patterns were personally cut by McQueen himself.

“Alexander McQueen’s autumn collection is inspired by Byzantine art, the carvings of Grinling Gibbons, and Old Master paintings and altar pieces including, in particular, works by Jean Fouquet, Sandro Botticelli, Stephan Lochner, Hans Memling, Hugo van der Goes, Jean Hey and Heironymus Bosch…

All patterns were cut on the stand by Lee Alexander McQueen. Each piece is unique, as was he.” -AlexanderMcQueen.com

Marching Orders

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Dries Van Noten usually marches to his own beat, this season, with his trench and full-skirted navy shirtdress, he brings a lovely twist to the military trend — a dressed down 50’s silhouette.

I’ve been wearing my old army-style parka with little skirts + black tights or with skinnies, now I’m looking forward to pulling out an old Steven Alan army-drab trench to wear with full skirts. The look reminds me of a noir-ish heroine in some post-WW2 movie, without being costumey — if only I could find that Prada lizard clutch I’ve been dreaming about, I’d be all set.

Splash Back

It’s flashback to the painterly splashes of abstract expressionism at Tibi’s Fall 2010 collection.
