In December 2004, Jean Paul Gaultier, John Galliano for Dior, Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, Valentino, and Ralph Rucci, revealed the inspiration behind their fall couture collections through exclusive collages produced for Harper’s Bazaar. With a Bit of RestraintFriday, September 18th, 2009 Lyell’s designer, Emma Fletcher believes in the kind of glamour that is achieved with a bit of restraint. Season after season, Lyell’s line is a collection of girlish, nostalgic and vintage-inspired pieces. “Lyell has the fine details of early century clothing, but the shapes can be quite modern,” Fletcher says. “I think overall, there is a sense of understated grandeur to the line. More than anything, I love the designer’s collages for Lyell and Fletcher [an on-going collaboration with Urban Outfitters].
