Down to the Wire

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

With these bare boned designs, the space between becomes an integral part of the whole. Despite the use of common industrial materials, the resulting products have an airy, weightless, and, in some cases, organic appeal.

1. Jaime Hayon’s Grid Vases for Gaia and Gino // 2. Designer and sculptor, Harry Bertoia, said of his Wire chair, “If you look at these chairs, they are mainly made of air, like sculpture. Space passes right through them.” Pictured is the Side Wire Chair, first produced in 1952 by Knoll // 3. Ten Thousand Things Cage earrings, at Ylang23 // 4&5. Incredible lightness of being. Spanish architect, artist and engineer, Santiago Calatrava, adds an unmistakable ethereal touch to his buildings and bridges.

Colour Mania

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Colour Mania, published by Victionary, showcases a collection of design work and the little pixels that compose the big pictures that shape the characters in our everyday life.

Taking a glance at a rambling collection of works, extensively covering campaigns, illustrations, branding, packaging, products and more, Colour Mania manifests how unicolour designs draw on the essence of nine colours and a rainbow tone, and project powerful impacts in an era ablaze with all sorts of hues. A cluster of designers from all around the globe would articulate how colours connect to them in every sense alongside their designs showcased in ten colour categories and the composition of every one of them.

Hit the Road

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Hubert Blanz’s work presents a unique vision of photo collaged expressways and tarmacs. The resulting images are compositionally graceful, albeit endless, concrete mazes.

Oh Boyy

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

BOYY accessories is headed up by New York designers Jesse Dorsey and Wannasiri Kongman. Boyy’s two-fer bag, Slash, a shoulder/clutch, was recently spotted on cool-girl Lou Doillon. Boyy’s fall 2009 line-up also includes a python version of Slash, called Slash Ltd., the top handled Frank, Clyde [which comes with detachable wallet], and the clever 2-sided and 2-toned flap Loui. With it’s jaunty chain strap and hanging chain bits, my person favorite is Slash’s little sister, Lucien [also in python]. The bags are available at Boyy’s online shop.
