Spike Jonze + [Opening Ceremony + Pamela Love] =

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Jewelry by Pamela Love for Opening Ceremony, still from Where the Wild Things Are. Images from W.

When faced with how to use the Warner Bros. big budget for his movie adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are, director Spike Jonze approached Humberto Leon and Carol Lim of [cool kids' retailer] Opening Ceremony. “Instead of just putting [money] in fast food and all that stuff, we want to do [projects] with people we’re really excited about, who can do quality things that won’t end up in the recycling bin in a month,” says Jonze. Appropriately enough, the resulting products are faux furs based on each of the monsters, and a line of claw-like jewelry by Pamela Love. [WMag blog]

Rodarte is on Target

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Rodarte collaborates with Target, Go International and Colette, Paris.

Designing sisters, Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte, are collaborating with Target. It has been reported that their Go International limited edition holiday line will consist of 55 dresses and separates, sold in-store and online through February.

In addition to the Target partnership, Rodarte will be teaming up with Colette, Paris. Come this October, in time for Paris Fashion Week, Rodarte is set to have a month-long retail space and gallery. The section will be featuring their fall 2009 collection, as well as items the duo has specially curated for the occasion.

Located on the second floor of the boutique, the gallery will be featuring a selection of pieces Rodarte specifically created for the Colette collaboration, such as kitted animals and limited edition jewelry created by their mother, as well as other hand-picked items — Love necklaces by Alexandra Grant, pillow cases by Miranda July, and books with covers hand-painted by Rebekah Miles, from “Charlotte’s Web” to a Kurt Cobain biography.

Some of the designers’ favorite things will also be featured — CDs of their favorite music, DVDs of 25 or so of their favorite horror films, selected American art work by the likes of Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth, Mari Estman, Elliott Hundley, Alexandra Grant, Karen Kilimnik, Raymond Pettibon and Autumn de Wilde.

Rodarte’s marbled ballet flats, which the duo created in collaboration with Repetto, will also be sold exclusively at Colette.
