A collaboration between jeweler Abakus and sculptor Lanny Zamora results in a flight of fancy. The sterling and black rhodium cuff, which can be ordered for either left or right wrist, is said to be inspired by Edgar Allan Poe.

Bugs

I’m not being cute when I say I love beetles. In fact, I’ve loved them since I was young. Or maybe I learned to love them when I was too young to know better.

When I was growing up, we had a fruit tree that attracted big, purple, pretty scarabs. They were a peculiarly friendly kind of beetle, letting me take them off the tree branches to play. I’m not so into playing with them anymore but I do still find certain ones fascinating. I’m especially attracted to the iridescent kind. Cockroaches, however? Not so much.

Ring Tones

My sadly unmanicured hands [hence the lack of self-photos] have been happily wearing carelessly piled mixed-metal rings off-and-on for years now.

Former NYLON art director Michele Outland designs a line of customizable T-shirts and accessories for her line Return to Me. As part of her collection, Outland offers gold- and silver- plated necklaces, each complete with needle and thread. Each piece can be personalized as the wearer sees fit, allowing “users to create their own brand message and ultimately brand themselves.” As part of Outland’s crafty branding project, she hopes wearers “return” a picture of their finished piece of self-expression, to be posted on her online gallery.

Lovely Bones

1. I own a sterling silver version of Elsa Peretti’s Bone cuff but I’m not mad at the iconic gold version. Not at all. See an homage to Elsa Peretti, beauty icon and Italian model-turned-jewelry-designer, at Style.com // 2&3. Brazilian product designer Fernando Akasaka’s offerings include a jewelry line, Le Blob. Shown are a blackened silver cuff and ring from his collection // 4. I’ve loved Jules Kim’s Bijules line for along time, albeit from afar. Pictured is the Bone Bar ring from her Scream & Spirit collection // 5. UK designer Luke Twigger’s Skullmate/City is a saucy li’l fella. His removable green cap, with its little feather, is clearly a nod to Robin Hood. Both ornamental and functional, each handmade earthenware container has a multitude of uses — pincushion, mint holder, even pasta bowls. [Spaghetti tetrazzini, anyone?] Each Skullmate comes lovingly numbered and signed.
