Summer 2010

Monday, June 14th, 2010

While the lack of real summer is not just a rumor San Franciscans spread to keep away the tourists, I still find it challenging to dress for warmer days. This year, I just want to stick to sandy tones. Built around white basics, I can throw on a black sweater, scarves and layers when need be. I’m looking forward to easy, fuss-free dressing.

1. I lived in this James Perse shirtdress while I was in Cabo a few weeks ago. It’s the perfect beach cover-up that transforms easily to a no-brainer city dress when belted // 2. I own a few Azaara bracelets and would really like a bone version for the coming months. I’m considering making myself one from vintage beads // 3. Sandy-colored wedges for work and beyond. Surface to Air suede wedges // 4. I recently stole my husband’s old beat-up brown leather belt, which I knot at waist or wear buckled low on my hips. Pictured here is a men’s belt from JCrew // 5. I love my black thread and silver Alyssa Norton bracelet. I want a gold metal and sunny-toned one to wear this summer. Available at La Garçonne // 6. No-frills white dress, Asos. I ordered this months ago and I’m looking forward to getting a lot of use out of it // 7. A Peace Treaty hand-embroidered cotton scarf // 8. Two-toned brogues for those days I might prefer a flat. These are from Madewell.

The perfect summer sandal.

Or, they would be perfect — if only my size wasn’t sold out. By Malene Birger, at Net-a-porter.

Carry All

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

I’m obsessed with finding THE perfect beach bag. Currently, I’m loving these hand woven striped totes. The tote is a result of a collaboration between catsudio and Sabala, a non profit society in Southern India. Sabala aids widows and economically challenged women in India by providing them the opportunity to learn skills and translate those into activities that generate income. The tote is available in both red and blue stripes at Calypso.

All Black in Black

Friday, May 21st, 2010

Today I’m wearing a pair of dark brown All Black cut out wedges. I love them. They’re ridiculously comfortable, I could run a marathon in them. Well, not really, but the shoe really can’t be blamed. They have just the right amount of something-something attitude I appreciate. The perfect in-between season shoe and they go with just about everything — skinny or slouchy jeans, shorts, skirts… everything. When I bought them months ago, I really wanted them in black. Alas, they weren’t available. Today I was thinking to myself once again how perfect they would be in black. How I NEED them in black.

ETA: Oh, and check it. Under $200. Can’t get better.

From Nature

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

Alkemie is a collaboration between the husband and wife design studio of Ashley Lowengrub and Dara Gerson. Much of Alkemie’s pieces are drawn from nature and have a spiritual, talisman appeal. Forged from 100% reclaimed metals, the line is available at Econscious Market, where 10% of each purchase benefits a Non Profit of your choice.

1. Seagull necklace // 2. Charm and chain necklace // 3. Sting ray cuff. I’ve loved manta rays since encountering them while scuba diving a few years ago, there was a particular incident that I’ll never forget. I own both the cuff and Manta ray ring // 4. Antique lace cuff. These remind me of the Aurelie Biderman cuffs I was lusting after last year, for a guilt-free price // 5. African link, tooth and bird necklace // 6. Skull and claw rosary.
